Undergraduate research assistant, Reese Gbur, just presented their poster “How Children Evaluate the Variability of Transgender and Cisgender Peers’ Gendered Preferences” at the BIO 152 symposium! BIO 152 students are expected to collaborate with a faculty mentor on a semester-long independent project, which culminates in a poster presentation at the end of the semester. Reese did a great job presenting and will continue working on this project in the Spring! Great job, Reese!

May 2025
Undergraduate research assistant, Grace Vella, has graduated from UW-Madison! Grace was such a huge help in developing many different projects in the lab. Lab Alumni Harlan Gunderson has been admitted to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Master’s of Science in Psychological Science program, and will be starting classes there this fall. Congratulations to Grace and Harlan and best of luck!


Lab manager, Saren Ramsey, and Dr. Jordan, attended the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) conference, where Saren presented their first research talk, “Minimal Group and Racial/Ethnic Attitudes Among US Minority and Majority Race/Ethnic Children“. Great work, Saren!

Two undergraduate students from the DISC Lab presented at the Undergraduate Research Symposium this year! Congratulations to Kal Shary for their research talk “Children’s Affiliation Inferences when Group Membership and Shared Preference Conflict” and to Maria Larson for her poster “Children’s Evaluations of Biracial Identity Concealment and Disclosure”. We are so proud of their hard work!

Our undergraduate research assistant, Rachel Fu, has recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. We are so proud of her achievements and so happy to have met her through the DISC lab. We look forward to seeing where she goes next. Congratulations Rachel!

JULY 2024
The DISC Lab has officially welcomed its new lab manager, Saren Ramsey, a recent graduate of Purdue University. Saren comes to the DISC lab from the ARISE Lab at Purdue, where they gained experience with project management, administration, recruitment, and testing with child participants.

MAY 2024
Three seniors of the DISC Lab have graduated from UW-Madison! Harlan Gunderson, Ava Heyrman, and Mikey Jasinski! Congratulations, everyone, for all of your hard work. The lab wishes these seniors the best of luck with their future endeavors and knows they will positively impact wherever they go next, as they were each instrumental to the DISC lab’s success.

This award goes to a current undergraduate student studying psychology to support their thesis in a faculty-mentored research lab.
